What is a critical path in project management?

In the realm of project management, a critical path refers to the longest sequence of dependent or floating activities that you need to complete in order for a project to be finished on time. On a critical path, an activity cannot be started until its preceding activity is complete. Consequently, the activities on a critical path must be closely managed.
