Challenges faced
- Disconnected systems. Multiple legacy systems operated in silos, causing inefficiencies and data fragmentation across departments.
- Manual workflows. Critical business processes relied on spreadsheets and email threads, slowing decision-making.
- Limited IT bandwidth. Increasing automation and app development requests overburdened the IT team as they lacked the capacity to address them.
- High operational costs. Heavy reliance on manual work and third-party vendors increased costs and reduced agility.
Solution
Honda Trading Asia began its digital transformation journey with Kissflow in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. With operations disrupted, the leadership team led by Somya Mayuraskoon, Director for Thailand and Asia Region, used the downtime to reimagine business processes using the AI-powered low-code platform.
"We started small with one simple flow, booking a company car, and once we saw results, we expanded," said Somya. "To persuade people to change, you have to make it visible and believable."
Starting automation with small, practical workflows on Kissflow helped the team build trust and momentum. More employees experienced the benefits of automation, including increased productivity, cost savings, and reduced overtime. Adoption spread rapidly across departments and countries.
With Kissflow, Honda Trading could unite business and IT to digitize approvals, reduce its app backlog, enforce compliance rules, and integrate seamlessly with SAP HANA, its warehouse management system, and logistics software.

To drive sustainable change, Honda Trading launched a Citizen Development Academy, empowering employees across regions to build workflows independently. The first batch of 20 participants quickly grew to 23 as more employees requested to join.
"Even our audit team created an audit control app in Kissflow and shared it with other regions like America and China," said Somya. "Once people experience the platform, they want to keep building."
Today, Honda Trading Asia runs over 400 workflows across eight countries, processing 160,000 transactions annually. Thailand alone contributes half of these workflows, with Vietnam emerging as a key developer supporting neighboring countries.
