PJ Lhuillier Group of Companies
The P.J. Lhuillier, Inc. (PJLI) is the parent company of the Cebuana Lhuillier Pawnshop, one of the largest microfinance institutions in the Philippines, with over 3,500 branches nationwide. They own and operate businesses dealing with financial services such as pawning, remittance, microinsurance, micro-savings, and business-to-business microloan solutions.

Challenges faced
The PJ Lhuillier Group of Companies encountered the following challenges using their existing tools.-
Integration. PJ Group’s existing tools did not integrate well with their core systems, and they had to rely on third-party connectors, which were expensive.

Inconsistent user experience. Each tool had a different UI/UX, so adopting them involved a steep learning curve.

Lack of visibility. Managers and process owners lacked end-to-end visibility into the progress and depended on manual follow-ups with the stakeholders. This led to manual reporting.
Solution
Before Kissflow, the PJ Lhuillier Group of Companies tried to solve these challenges using Excel, Outlook, and Trello. However, like most enterprises, they also found these tools to be a temporary fix.
When the frustrations persisted, the PJ Lhuillier Group explored alternative solutions such as workflow automation tools and low-code/no-code platforms. They chose Kissflow because of its simple user interface.
Warren Enteria heads the Business Quality Management and Business Process Automation divisions at PJ Lhuillier, which are a part of the planning and strategy function. He shared that his team spearheads automation with low-code/no-code platforms like Kissflow. “We are an example of Citizen Developers,” Warren proudly said. “It (Kissflow) is no-code/low-code, easy-to-use both on the developer side, we're not into coding, we're not IT, we're not hard coders... we are more of business process design.”
When talking about the impact of Kissflow on their internal operations and overcoming the gaps in their existing systems, Warren said, “With Kissflow, we have a single version of truth unlike if you employ different tools, different systems. You will have to reconcile the data from the different systems and come up with errors because you’ll do it manually.”
He added, “We made it (Kissflow) a tool for every use case that we have, in terms of digitalization of our workflows and processes.”
Currently, three departments predominantly use Kissflow for their operations: accounting, leasing, and facilities & fleet. Some of the extensive key use cases they have streamlined end-to-end with Kissflow are:
- Payment Request Application: Starts with raising the request for cash advancement, reimbursement, etc., and ends with securing a receipt.
- Leasing Management System: Helps acquire leads and process the lease application forms. It involves approvals, renewals, termination, and pre-termination of contracts.
- Repairs and Maintenance Application: Enables tenants to file service requests.
Warren highlighted that Kissflow’s AI features, such as the AI-suggested workflows, helped fastrack the automation of their processes. He also mentioned that the PJ Group found the ability to integrate with Ui Path, RASA, Chatfuel, and other internal systems super helpful.
Although they started small with three departments using Kissflow, the PJ Lhuillier Group plans to expand Kissflow to all the other departments soon. He said, “Eventually, we’ll be empowering other business units, non-IT units like HR and marketing, to do their own automation as well because there’s a bottleneck in terms of automation if everybody were to go to our IT.” He added, “The proof that anybody can do it in the organization is us, our team because our background is on business process design and not on developing applications.”
The PJ Lhuillier Group of Companies also plans to use Kissflow to track SLAs and integrate the platform with existing systems.
