The first step in automating your business processes is getting them digitized and visualized with a great business process modeling tool. But after your process has been running for a while, you must be able to examine it and determine if it needs optimizing.
That’s where business process analysis tools come in. They capture all the data that you need to learn how well your system is flowing and where you need to make changes for improvement.

Appian has been an anchor for high-end low-code BPM processing for a long time. It gives users lots of tools to create and automate processes and other kinds of apps.
When it comes to doing analysis on those processes, Appian doesn’t fail, but it also doesn’t overwhelm. While not the most technical of the options here, Appian’s analysis tools have a lot to offer. Appian keeps a long history of your processes to be able to go back to any time period and look at trends. It also provides stats for predictive analysis to see how your items have performed in the past and where problems might arise.
However, these tools aren’t the crown jewels of Appian. While the analytical tools are adequate, they aren’t the main focus.
KiSSFLOW is the easiest BPM product on the market to get into. Anyone who knows how a process ought to run and get into it can build an automated business process in a few minutes.
KiSSFLOW analytics are based on its reporting. Most reports in KiSSFLOW are custom-built. You can build a report around any item, any status, or any form field that is important to you. You can also get drill-down reports on specific steps for processes, or examine all the tasks assigned to a particular user.
The best tool for analytics is the App Metrics Report which shows you how well a particular process has functioned over any given period. It can show the number of items in a particular process, the average time taken to complete items, and how many items are hung up due to rejections or clarifications.
KiSSFLOW analytics aren’t super fancy, but give the user everything he or she needs, and plenty more.
Pega is another high-end low-code solution. As a business process analysis tool, Pega relies heavily on its 55 report types you can pick from to display your data in many graphical ways including line, bar, pie graphs, and many more.
Built-in analytics aren’t a strength of Pega, but as long as you are willing to make it on your own, you can get a good view of how your systems are doing. Exporting data to use in other data reporting platforms is also an option, like all the other tools mentioned here.
ProcessMaker is a little more the friend of the data geek than some of the other options. It has a lot of custom dashlets you can create to show unique reporting metrics for your processes, and even an Employee Efficiency report to show which employees are moving items quickly, and which ones are causing backups.
In recent releases, They’ve added mixed data reports and an updated dashboard to display all your analytical data. ProcessMaker is a good alternative if having a highly capable business process analysis tool is important for your growth.
K2’s reporting features are very similar to KiSSFLOW in that you can produce either custom reports or get metrics on how well the processes are flowing. K2 allows you to display this information in many different graphical formats.
Like other business process analysis tools, you can export the data, but K2 comes with a focus on sending data into Microsoft Power BI. K2 has special templates just for Power BI to help you get a better view of the data around your processes.
Most people only think about a great business process analysis tool after they already have their processes in place. However, if you choose a BPM tool that has weak analytics, you may regret it later or have to spend a lot of money creating custom forms and exporting data around. Or worse, you may have automated processes, but no way to tell how well they run.
